LRF designed boutique hotel Éclat in Beijing following the successful completion of the same Hong Kong-based developer’s Taipei hotel. Housed in a distinctive glass and steel tower within Parkview Green, Éclat’s concept was inspired by contemporary Taiwanese design. Although Éclat is a business hotel, its DNA exudes a sense of luxurious joie de vivre.

The lobby features a reinterpretation of the traditional moon gate found in Chinese architecture; it is repeated as a circular light tunnel that extends infinitely through clever use of mirror. Many artefacts from the client’s extensive art collection are exhibited in the lobby, including works by Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol. The sophisticated Dunhill Club is outfitted with tufted leather chairs, bevelled glass screens and boy toys such as a foosball table against a floor to ceiling library.

Guestrooms start at 35sq m and include Philippe Starck’s Louis IX Ghost chair along with Lasvit chandeliers. Quirky details include a white plastic gun is a whimsical remote control that turns on the bedside lamp. Bathrooms feature magic frosted glass that provides privacy in the shower and bathtub, while a ring of tinted mirror echoes the same finish in the mini bar console and lobby. Larger, 60sq m guestrooms boast private plunge pools while some guestrooms offer private balconies.
